Widening U.S. 54 in Camdenton reaches halfway point

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Upgrading U.S. Route 54 in Camdenton reached a milestone this week with the transition to the second half of the project: widening the westbound travelway.

Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation began widening eastbound U.S. 54 from the Business Route 5 interchange to Bumper Hill Road in November 2025. That portion of the project wrapped up this week, and on Tuesday, Sept. 1, crews shifted traffic to begin widening westbound U.S. 54. During this phase of work, one lane is open in each direction and the center turn lane has been restored

The project is on track to be completed in late 2027. All work is weather-permitting and subject to change.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $6,858,291.67 contract to Capital Paving & Construction, LLC, to expand the current three-lane highway to five lanes, providing two lanes of travel in each direction with a shared center turn lane. Included in the project are drainage improvements along with new curbs and entrance approaches.
