JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites the public to visit Runge Nature Center this September. Nature center staff have a variety of upcoming programs aimed at helping the public explore and enjoy nature this fall. Programs include but are not limited to:
- Introduction to Fly Fishing Sept. 4 from 5-8 p.m.: Learn how fly fishing differs from conventional fishing, what equipment is needed, and how to cast while fly fishing at this free event designed for participants ages 12 and older. All participants ages 16-64 will need a valid fishing license. All fishing equipment will be provided. Register at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/oGL.
- Nature Art Sept. 5 from 1-3 p.m.: Each fall, thousands of birds are lost to window strikes during migration. Join MDC staff for an afternoon of crafting with a purpose to make fabric birds to contribute to the installation. Register at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/oG6.
- Virtual Introduction to Fall Duck Identification Sept. 9 from 12-1 p.m.: Whether preparing to hunt waterfowl this upcoming season or trying to mark a bird off your checklist, identifying fast flying ducks can be a challenge. Join this virtual event to explore tips and tricks for identifying ducks during the fall. Register at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/oGE.
- Hiking at Van Meter State Park Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Join MDC staff for a guided trail hike along the Earthworks, Memorial, and Oumessourit Wetland Boardwalk trails at Van Meter State Park in Saline County.
